Description
Under general supervision of the Parks Operations Supervisor, the Irrigation Specialist operates a variety of construction equipment used to perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's irrigation systems within the Parks inventory.
Principal Duties
Irrigation Specialist
The Irrigation Specialist II (Licensed) performs all duties of the Irrigation Specialist I, in addition to the following:
Required:
Irrigation Specialist
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid State of Texas Driver’s License. Ability to obtain designation as a Licensed Irrigation Installer by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within twelve (12) months from date of employment, and ability to maintain the certification. Knowledge of materials and products used in landscape irrigation installation and maintenance. Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical system installation, operation, and repair. Knowledge of irrigation system design and general plant/turf water requirements. Experience with wire tracer and remote unit operation and use. Willingness and availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency response.
Preferred
Ability to test and maintain backflow prevention devices

Principal Duties
Irrigation Specialist
- Install, replace/repair and maintain irrigation systems for City parks, athletic fields and other parks & recreation landscapes.
- Perform skilled duties operating a variety of light to heavy equipment used in making irrigation repairs, to include but not limited to, a trencher, mini-track hoe, backhoe, and skid-steer.
- Perform routine irrigation system checks to ensure proper system operation and coverage.
- Replace controllers and irrigation heads as needed to ensure optimal performance and conservation of water.
- Use computer, laptop and/or mobile device to complete work order activities and track expenses for equipment, material and labor.
- Participate in the preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment by cleaning and performing pre-operation equipment inspections, identifying and reporting equipment maintenance repair needs to Fleet Equipment Technicians and assisting with minor equipment maintenance.
- Assist in preparing for special events and recreational programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Irrigation Specialist II (Licensed) performs all duties of the Irrigation Specialist I, in addition to the following:
- Program and modify electronic controllers and computer systems to maintain water efficiency of irrigation and sprinkler systems. May program and maintain the central irrigation control system for sports facility fields to include entering on/off times.
- Design and develop irrigation system specifications.
- Test backflow devices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required:
