Custodial Worker
The Department of Public Works of the City of College Park, MD, is seeking our next full-time Custodial Worker. The selected candidate will ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by creating spaces where employees, residents, and visitors feel comfortable and cared for, while contributing to a healthier, more productive environment for everyone who walks through our doors. From sparkling floors to sanitized workspaces, you'll help create a space people are proud to be in.
Some of the responsibilities are:
- Maintain the cleanliness of offices, restrooms, break areas, and common spaces.
- Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal according to a set schedule.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and carpet extractors.
- Restock supplies like paper products, soap, and sanitizers.
- Report maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly.
- Follow all safety and sanitation protocols to ensure a healthy environment.
The ideal candidate will have:

- A positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.
- Reliability and punctuality; our team counts on you to keep things running smoothly.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and be on your feet for extended periods.
- Experience in custodial or janitorial work is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
This position is considered essential in emergencies and severe weather events. Incumbents must be willing and able to work long shifts in adverse conditions. All essential personnel may be required to report for duty on short notice or to remain on duty beyond the regular shift.
The City of College Park is a Drug-Free Workplace. The selected candidate considered for the position will be required to undergo a background investigation, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screening.
