What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Streets Maintenance Worker (up to 5 months) position at City of Coeur d'Alene?
Job Summary As with all of our seasonal summer help, there is potential for full-time benefited career future opportunities for those applicants who work hard and show promise. The City of Coeur d'Alene Streets and Engineering Department maintains over 250 center lane miles of road and right-of-way including asphalt and pothole repair, 64 signalized intersections, 12,000 street signs, and 500 permanent pavement markings. Other maintenance responsibilities performed include the Drainage Utility maintenance (swale restoration, hard pipe cleaning and videoing), sidewalk repair and replacement to bring into Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance as well as support of the many Special Events such as 4th of July, Car d'lane, Ironman, Street Fair.
This position is 40-hours per week. Examples of Duties This position performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in the operations, maintenance, and repair of the City streets. This is an entry-level position and works directly under the supervision of the Field Supervisor with direction from a lead worker to ensure compliance with City street standards.
Minimum Requirements Some street-related construction, maintenance, or CDL experience is preferred but not required. Supplemental Information This position must maintain flexible work hours and may work weekends and holidays to perform work and respond to emergencies. The position works in an outdoor environment with exposure to adverse weather conditions, traffic, open trenches and hazards involving the use of power tools, light and heavy construction equipment, hazardous chemicals, and asphalt fumes.
Advantages: Street Maintenance Workers are eligible to enroll in our CDL program which allows actively employed Street Department employees the opportunity to obtain a Class A CDL. During summer months, Street Maintenance Workers work four 10-hour shifts, unless individual assignments require an alternate schedule. Potential advancement into full-time opportunities.
Core work months for this position will be May through September. Opportunity to become a certified flagger. Overtime opportunities are available to support emergencies and special events.
