What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Grounds Maintenance Worker (Parks) position at City of Coeur d'Alene?
Performs maintenance work in city parks, including irrigation systems and playground structures, turf and landscape maintenance, custodial duties, event and concert coverage and light construction/facility repair. Additional duties include soil and plant cultivation, fertilization applications, cleanup duties and dock and buoy maintenance. The work is performed under direct supervision of the department supervisor or Lead Maintenance Worker. The principal duties of this class are performed outdoors and include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, equipment and hazardous chemicals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs maintenance on restrooms, playground equipment, and picnic areas;
- Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, and application of herbicides and fertilizers;
- Performs general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal;
- Refurbishes benches, picnic tables, bleachers, receptacles, playground structures, and signs;
- Maintains park settings, trees, playgrounds, and other areas;
- Performs scheduled maintenance and repair of automated irrigation systems;
- Provides facility and equipment security.

- Basic grounds maintenance skills, including but not limited to mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, irrigation, and fertilization;
- Applicable regulations and policies regarding safe work practices, including application of herbicides and pesticides.
Ability to:
- Follow written and oral instructions;
- Operate power equipment, including but not limited to: grounds keeping equipment, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, backhoe and tractor, and related equipment;
- Operate hand tools and power tools;
- Operate a motor vehicle;
- Operate, adjust, and monitor automated sprinkler control systems;
- Work weekends, evenings, and holidays;
- Work in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, equipment and hazardous chemicals;
- Communicate effectively with the public and other employees including in sensitive situations.
