Description
DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Leaders organize and supervise various sports and facilities at Clovis area playgrounds and parks, the recreation center, skatepark, and Clovis Batting Range.
Examples of Duties
Supervise adult indoor and outdoor sports such as inline hockey, basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer; supervise daily operations of the Clovis Batting Range including minor equipment maintenance, inventory, daily revenue accounting and customer service; supervise participants at the Clovis Rotary Skatepark and ensure compliance with regulations; conduct special community recreation events; organize recreation supplies and equipment; complete incident and participation reports; direct the activities of recreation volunteers and referees and perform related duties as assigned. The position is for year-round programs in the City's diverse recreation programs. Appointed hours may be during weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Typical Qualifications
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Possession of valid First Aid and CPR certificates, or obtain certificate within three (3) months of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Education sufficient to assure the ability to read, write, and perform basic math skills at the level required for successful job performance.
Experience:
- Six (6) months of work experience, internship, or volunteer experience in any field.
Hours:
- Available to work between the hours of 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven (7) days per week.

Working Conditions:
- Upon completion of the training period, individuals will be required to work independently on day and evening shifts; and will be required to work in several recreation locations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Strength: Medium work-occasional lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50-100 pounds maximum; with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; ability to lead and participate in physically demanding athletic/recreational activities; ability to work scheduled shifts and work outdoors;

Applicants must meet each qualification for the position at the time of application submission. All applications will be reviewed based on the necessary employment standards for the position. Selection shall be made from those applicants who submit a complete employment application and supplemental questionnaire, meet the position requirements, receive a passing score on an initial application screening and receive a qualifying score on an oral interview, weighted 100%. Oral interviews for the position will be administered in the City of Clovis. Candidates will be required to obtain Standard First Aid and Community CPR (adult, child, and infant) certifications at their expense. As determined by the City and at the City's expense, successful candidates shall be required to complete and pass a medical examination, a drug/alcohol screen, and a background investigation. Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
