HVAC SPECIALIST

Knowledge of:
EPA regulations relating to HVAC
Characteristics of electricity; electric and electronic systems related to HVAC
Practical mathematics, physics, chemistry; principles of air flow.
Refridgeration cycle; combustion principles
OSHA safety guidelines; Employee Safety Instruction Manual.
City requisition processes.

Ability to:
Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff.
Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment.
Install ducts, piping, equipment.
Read drawings and schematics.
Create sketches and diagrams as necessary.
Properly operate and maintain shop tools and equipment.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public.
Operate assigned vehicle.

Four (4) years of paid full time journeyman level experience and four (4) years
Apprenticeship level experience in the operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment and controls.
A two (2) year educational program in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning at a technical institute or college may be substituted for two (2) years of apprenticeship experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Commercial Driver's License.

Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; exposure to computer screens; work with electrical energy; work on ladders or scaffolds, around moving vehicles or equipment; exposure to dust, cleaners and lubricants, fumes, vibrations, noise.

Physical Conditions: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, kneeling; general manual dexterity required; must be able to distinguish colors; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
