Job Description
Join the Public Works team and help keep Chesapeake running smoothly!

Public Works is seeking a customer service focused professional with strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills to provide technical and administrative support to the Contractual Services Division.
In this role, you’ll serve as the primary administrator for a variety of operational service contracts that help maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure, including:
  • Mowing services
  • Landscaping services
  • Cave in repairs
  • Small construction contracts for right of way infrastructure repairs


This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys coordinating projects, working with contractors, and supporting the delivery of essential public services.

Successful candidates should have experience with or the ability to learn:
  • Computer software and business applications
  • Maximo
  • PeopleSoft
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Reading and interpreting construction plans
  • Microsoft Office 365, including Excel

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Depending on departmental operational requirements, may require valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards; may also require additional certifications based on the department needs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
