Job Description


Position Title: Events Assistant

Department: Events

Location: Room 303 City Hall

Number of open positions: 1 Anticipated Start Date: 6/8/26 End Date: 7/31/26

Hours of work per week: Up to 35 hours per week

Business/Work Hours: Flexible as person may need to work events Live on the Levy and Regatta

Pay Rate: $13.00/hour.


General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to implement a variety of community, recreational, cultural, special events, and other programs at City of Charleston designated facilities. This position is part of the Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program for individuals aged 16-20 years old. Employment dates are June 8, 2026, through July 31, 2026, with potential extensions based on availability and departmental needs. This position works under close supervision and performs duties according to established procedures.

Responsibilities, tasks, and projects:

Assisting the City Events Coordinator and the Charleston the Charleston Regatta Coordinator with task that include but are not limited to:

  • Phone calls.
  • Event logistics
  • Organizing files and inventory
  • Researching event and vendor information
  • Event set-up

Candidate requirements:

  • Must be between the age 16-20 years old
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Internet and Microsoft office
  • Good Communication skills
  • OK with being outside for long periods of time in the heat.
  • OK with a lot of walking on some days.

Dress Code:

  • No shorts unless working outside on an event. Comfortable shoes.

Additional Qualifications:

  1. Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
  2. Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate and interact with others; to understand and interpret safety instructions; and to respond to internal and external inquiries.
  3. Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures, and expectations.
