What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Clerk position at City of Chardon?

The Chardon Municipal Court is looking to fill a Deputy Clerk position in the Criminal Trafffic Division. This is entry-level clerical work that includes processing various legal documents, providing support of the everyday operations of the Court and serving the public. This position is under the supervision of the Municipal Clerk of Court.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for receiving, recording and documenting monetary transactions for legal documents
- Preparing, recording, receiving correspondence, notices and other legal documents
- Serving and assisting all those who utilize the Court with efficient customer service
As part of the selection process, a candidate may be required to successfully perform exercises to test his or her knowledge of laws and regulations, writing ability and understanding of the Court system. Applicants who have knowledge of a second language or American Sign Language, should indicate on their resumé, and may be required to demonstrate those skills. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal record check and may be required to undergo a background investigation.
Employees of the Court are at-will employees and serve at the pleasure of the Court. They are not in the classified civil service system and are not members of bargaining units.

Qualifications
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED - Prior court related experience desired and/or clerical/office experience - Computer proficiency required - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with attorneys, court staff and the public - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
