The Legal Assistant provides administrative, legal, clerical and customer service support to the attorneys in the Legal Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, production of court documents and coordination of court proceedings related to municipal ordinance violation prosecution, small claims and administrative enforcement processes, and civil cases. This position prepares documents related to real estate transactions and coordinates closings; prepares and organizes the routing and execution of contract documents; provides a variety of administrative and customer service activities and activities involving response to public information requests. This Legal Assistant must exercise initiative with a high degree of independence and demonstrate exceptional critical thinking, customer service and project coordination skills.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Progressively responsible experience in a legal environment or a closely related field requiring familiarity with legal concepts and terminology, critical thinking skills, organizational skills, ensuring continuous confidentiality, discretion, professionalism, and performing support duties which may include preparation of pleadings and other legal documents.
- Ability to lift and pull items weighing up to 35 pounds, with or without accommodation.
- Municipal or closely related governmental legal experience.
- Experience providing administrative support for civil cases, ordinance violation cases, and building safety/code compliance cases.
- Experience responding to public information requests.
- Experience with Municipal Justice or other similar legal case management software.
- Experience with JustFOIA or other similar FOIA management programs.
- Associate degree or higher in Legal Studies or related field.
- Certification as a legal assistant or paralegal.
Drug screening and criminal background check will be required. The 2025/2026 fiscal year annual starting salary range is $62,769 - $71,457, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications, including cover letter, must be submitted online no later than Sunday, June 14, 2026.
