Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates transit vehicles on scheduled routes in a safe and responsible manner.
- Provides respectful and inclusive service to all passengers, including individuals with disabilities, older adults, and people from diverse backgrounds.
- Collects and records fares accurately; operates fare collection equipment in line with department procedures.
- Responds to public inquiries and acknowledges concerns or complaints with professionalism and empathy.
- Prepares and submits required reports and record sheets daily.
- Provides assistance to passengers in compliance with ADA regulations and City policies, including operating wheelchair lifts/ramps and securing mobility devices.
- Conducts pre-trip vehicle checks and ensures the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the bus.
- Performs post-trip inspections, including checking for lost items, securing the vehicle, and refueling.
- Shares accurate route, schedule, and fare information with passengers.
- Maintains reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Previous experience operating buses or other CDL vehicles is preferred
- Experience providing customer service or working with the public is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals of varied backgrounds and needs
- Must possess valid U.S. Driver’s License
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) permit with passenger and airbrake endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate required upon hire
