Position Summary

The City of Carthage is accepting applications for a Golf Maintenance Technician I. This position performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction, and care of golf course grounds and related facilities. Duties include mowing, landscaping, minor construction, plumbing repairs, equipment operation, and general grounds maintenance. Work is performed under the direction of the Golf Maintenance Supervisor and reviewed through observation of work in progress and results achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

• Perform mowing, trimming, landscaping, and general maintenance of golf course grounds
• Construct and finish cart paths
• Repair plumbing and paint golf course buildings and equipment
• Trim and remove trees; plant trees and perform landscaping activities
• Pick up and haul litter and debris
• Operate hand tools and light-to-heavy equipment, including pickup trucks, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, and front-end loaders
• Perform minor repairs on vehicles and equipment
• Carry out additional related duties as assigned by the Golf Maintenance Supervisor

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Golf course maintenance, construction, repair, and renovation techniques
• Tools, materials, and equipment used in golf maintenance
• Safety practices and hazards related to maintenance work

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public
• Learn new tasks and adapt to changing job requirements

Experience and Education

• Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a similar position is preferred
• Education: High school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) credential

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license
• Must maintain a functioning telephone at place of residence

Work Schedule and Conditions

• Typical hours: 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
• Schedule: 80 hours per bi-weekly pay period
• Weekends and holidays are required
• Seasonal overtime is required
• Overtime or compensatory time provided in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds; push or pull up to 100 pounds
• Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and bend frequently
• Work indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions
• Exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noise typical of golf course maintenance, with appropriate safety precautions
