General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for collecting recyclables and refuse on residential routes the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Collects refuse and recyclables throughout the city.
● Assists with dumping materials at the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.
● Performs the work of Solid Waste Driver in his or her absence.
● Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
● Assists with pickup of appliances, compost and bulk refuse during Wednesday special trash
collections.
● Assists with the Recycling Facility as assigned; processes recyclable, operates Recycling Center
equipment and maintains the grounds around the Recycling Center.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalency required.
● Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
Salary per hour $18.58, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Thirteen paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $27.98 hourly/$58,202 yearly.
Before final appointment, successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation and pre-employment physical.
