General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for performing technical duties in the operation of a solid waste collection vehicle for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Operates automated refuse/recycling truck on an assigned route.
● Maintains all vehicle records and reports.
● Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
● Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
● Assists in the operation and maintenance of the Transfer Station and Recycling Center when
needed.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalency and three (3) years experience required.
● Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
● One (1) year experience in Solid Waste and/or Recycling or related field operating Solid Waste and/or Recycling or similar vehicles and equipment.
Salary per hour $22.62, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $33.15 hourly/$68,960 yearly.
