Grade: G02 - $16.07 / hour (Click here for pay scale)


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to prepare, package, and serve meals for the Senior Center and to assist in programming and day-to-day activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides daily support and interaction to seniors; greets visitors, answers phones and emails; assists with questions and provides information.
  • Prepares food and beverages for group and home-bound meals; packages food for home-bound meals; monitors food temperatures to ensure compliance with health department food handling guidelines.
  • Cleans and ensures safety of kitchen equipment and facilities; disinfects surfaces; performs other cleaning and janitorial tasks for the center as needed.
  • Inventories supplies and places orders as needed.
  • Maintains activity and information boards.
  • Assists with activities and event preparation as needed; assists with transporting senior groups for field trips and outings; drives van when needed.
  • Ensures safety procedures are followed and proper safety equipment is utilized; continually monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and others.
  • Prepares reports and/or completes paperwork as needed; ensures maintenance of records in compliance with city, state, and federal recordkeeping requirements.
  • Communicates with supervisor, co-workers, other departments, citizens and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of food handling and health department guidelines
  • Knowledge of kitchen tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in preparing group meals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment within the scope of responsibility
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public
  • Must be able to meet regular attendance requirements
  • Must be able to drive to assigned locations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma/GED; experience in food service, customer service, and working with seniors is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must obtain a Food Handler Certification within six months of employment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical activities required for this position involve:
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking, and hearing.

This position requires lifting:
Up to 25 pounds frequently.

This position has the following special vision requirements:
Ability to view information in print and electronically.

Extreme temperatures and outdoor weather conditions.
