JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION: This is a technical position involving the maintenance, and repair of sidewalks, grounds, landscaping, roads and other City assets. Knowledge of and skills in utilizing hand and power tools, bucket truck, dump truck forklift, and backhoe is required. Employee is required to manufacture, install/maintain traffic control devices. Subject to call out in emergencies, may require working on holidays and weekends. Qualifications and a summary of essential duties and responsibilities are set forth below.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Patch holes in streets with matching material i.e., Lime rock base, Asphalt & #57 rock.
- Maintain and install City traffic signs.
- Clear brush and debris from City right of ways and other City properties.
- Load and unload heavy materials.
- Carpentry, cement work, painting, and general labor related tasks.
- Operation of asphalt truck and roller.
- Will require operation of street saws, chainsaws & basic power & hand tools.
- Operation of vans, pick ups and cars.
- Move equipment, load and unload heavy material from trucks and move equipment and large bulky objects.
- Keep track of and maintain City equipment, including rolling equipment (mowers), hand tools, power tools and materials use in the course of the job including barricades, cones and other work zone safety equipment.
- Work safely, diligently and responsibly at completing assigned duties.
- Work cooperatively and complementary with assigned co-worker.
- Comprehend and implement verbal and written orders and assignments in English.
- Clean interior and exterior of public buildings and property.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- Basic knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits, carpentry and plumbing.
- Ability to maintain and operate a zero turn mower, utility cart, weed eater and similar grounds equipment signs, markings, and appurtenances, and perform routine, preventative and emergency maintenance on traffic signs, buildings and related appurtenances.
- Ability to read instruments, operates survey equipment to establish and grades, and prepares reports.
- Ability to safely and properly operate and maintain various types of construction equipment, vehicles and power and hand tools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS LISTED AS FOLLOWS:
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of both hands with majority of fingers. 20/40 vision (in at least one eye), and be able to hear and understand and verbally communicate in English at normal conversational levels (corrective devices acceptable). Motor skill ability to operate equipment without excessive accommodation, climb, crawl, stoop, etc. See page 4 for additional information.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent; supplemented by a minimum of one year of general labor experience, preferably in a streets maintenance/repair role. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Commercial Drivers License, Class B or higher with air brake endorsement, or have the ability to get a CDL Permit within 3 months of hire and the ability to get the license within the following 12 months.
