Position Summary
The Public Works Department is currently recruiting applicants to fill temporary/seasonal positions up to 40 hours a week to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of Streets, Fleet, Utility, and Park & Building Maintenance. Opportunities are available at a variety of skills and levels from unskilled to skilled laborers.

- If age 17 and no driver's license, pay is $15.26/hour.
- If age 17 with driver's license, pay is $15.82/hour.
- If age 18 and no driver's license, pay is $16.39-$20.76/hour.
- If age 18 with drivers license, pay is $17.39-$22.17
- If age 18 with commercial drivers license, pay is $18.44-$24.23
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All Seasonal Public Works positions:
- Perform heavy manual labor
- Collect and maintain records
- Promote harmonious relations with fellow employees, divisions, departments and with the public
- Perform and assist with any Operations and Maintenance-related duties
- Operate vehicles and/or small equipment (If age 17 or do not have a driver's license, may operate small equipment only e.g., weed whipper)
Street Maintenance Division:
- Perform operator type maintenance on assigned vehicles/equipment
- Assist and perform maintenance and repair on asphalt streets, parking lots and trails, and concrete curb and sidewalks
- Assist and perform storm sewer and drainage maintenance and repair
- Assist and perform maintenance of traffic signs and markings
Fleet Maintenance Division:
- Perform automotive/truck vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair
- Pick up and deliver parts
- Perform and assist with general cleaning of the shop and equipment
Utility Maintenance Division:
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of water mains, water services, valves, fire hydrants, meters, etc.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of sewer mains, sewer services, manholes, etc.
Park & Building Maintenance Division
- Perform and assist with general cleaning of facilities
- Perform and assist with maintenance tasks
- Perform and assist with operator-type maintenance on vehicles/equipment
- Perform and assist with parks and public grounds/right-of-way turf, landscape and clean-up maintenance
- Perform and assist with tree maintenance
- Perform and assist with park facilities maintenance
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Education
High school graduate or the equivalent
Experience
- 17 years of age for Park & Building Maintenance
- 18 years of age or older for Streets, Fleet and Utility Maintenance positions
Licenses/Certifications
Valid, unrestricted, Class D driver's license required for Streets and Utility Maintenance positions
Valid, unrestricted, Class D driver's license preferred for Park & Building Maintenance positions
EquivalencyAn equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Desired Qualifications

- Industrial or automotive type painting
- Soldering and welding
- Valid Minnesota Class "B" CDL
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications
- Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese language(s)

Positions are temporary/seasonal positions that will work up to 40 (forty) hours per week. Seasonal work may be performed anytime between the dates of April 1st - October 31st, per union contract.
Hours
Street & Fleet Maintenance: Work shifts are Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM, four days a week.
Utility Maintenance: Work shifts are 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Park & Building Maintenance: Work shifts are 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Evening and weekend shifts may be assigned as needed.
Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
