What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Safety Instructor position at City of Brooklyn Center?
Primary responsibility is to provide water safety instruction to the Brooklyn Center Community Center pool patrons.
The Brooklyn Center Community Center is open 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. At this time, we are looking for candidates that can teach classes on Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings, and mornings Monday-Thursday.Summer swim lessons will be anticipated to start the week of June 8, 2026.
- Teach skills in accordance with the American Red Cross and the Brooklyn Center Aquatics Program standards.
- Promote, teach and ensures the safety of all class participants,
- Completion of all progress reports, cards and Red Cross forms before the last class.
- Enforce and follow all facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Maintain current lesson plans.
- Lead swim lessons in a fun and engaging manner appropriate to the class demographic.
- Remain current in all certifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
- Must be at least 15 years old
- General knowledge of all swimming strokes
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
Desired Requirements
- Experience working with children
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, or Somali.
