The City of Brooklyn Center has a great seasonal opportunity for summer 2026!
This position administers, interprets, and educates the community on the City’s ordinances. The position performs inspections and related functions of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with property maintenance and grass/weed violations. The position may assist in the rental license program and conduct inspections.
This is a great opportunity for seasonal work or an internship. Applicants enrolled in a construction trade, code enforcement program or building inspection trade program or similar educational programs are encouraged to apply.- Performs inspections and related functions related to residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with various city codes including, but not limited to property maintenance, housing, grass, zoning, and nuisance.
- Assists inspectors and city staff with investigations and special projects.
- Investigates complaints and issues correction notices.
- Works with individuals in the community to achieve compliance with city codes, while fostering a sense of community.
- Responsible for maintaining records and filing.
- Provides various administrative support to inspectors and department staff at the request of the Community Development Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be willing to have a flexible schedule to accommodate inspections, meetings, and other assigned tasks.
- Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License.
- Must have working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of property maintenance, construction, zoning, or nuisance codes.
- Experience providing customer service or handling complaints.
- Knowledge of general City programs and other community resources.
- Be able to effectively track multiple cases over time to ensure compliance while managing other projects and assignments.
- Computer experience with databases.
