Summary Statement

Spend your summer outdoors making a splash with Boise Parks and Recreation! As a Pool Manager, you’ll oversee day-to-day pool operations, support and lead seasonal staff, and help ensure a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for all patrons. This temporary position is based at one of the City’s outdoor pools and is open to applicants 19 years of age or older. Essential Functions

  • Provides customer service to pool patrons. Processes daily admissions and lesson registrations. Enforces pool rules and has authority to ask patrons to leave the facility for the day or week. Assigns instructors to lessons and supervises programs at their site.
  • Supervises lifeguard and swim instructor staff. Schedules employees, approves time records, and evaluates performance. Performs cashiering duties and creates daily deposit. Uses a cash register or a computer with RecTrac.
  • Performs general pool maintenance and maintains proper chemical balance of the pool. Uses a test kit to check the chemical balance and notifies maintenance if action is needed.
  • Cleans hair catchers, backwashes the filtration system, and vacuums the pool for debris. Maintains a safe pool, deck area, and office. Attends training to learn proper pool maintenance and safety techniques.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Two years of experience working at a pool.
Knowledge of:
  • Supervisory practices and principles.
  • Pool maintenance and safety.
  • Lifeguard practices and procedures.
  • Customer service techniques.
  • Cash handling procedures.
Ability to:
  • Deal with the public, co-workers, and supervisors in a friendly and tactful manner
  • Supervise and evaluate temporary seasonal staff
  • Interpret and explain policies and procedures
  • Ensure pool safety procedures are being followed
  • Maintain pool facilities
  • Perform basic bookkeeping tasks
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion
  • Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Three years of experience in a pool facility and personnel management.
  • American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification
  • American Red Cross or YMCA CPR and First Aid Certification
Licensing And Other Requirements
  • Valid State Issued Driver's License
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification within 30 days of hire date

Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

    • In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.
  • This position is required to supervise employees during the performance of critical incident functions which require employees to qualify to carry firearms, perform emergency medical, lifesaving and/or fire suppression activities.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
