What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ice Garden Attendant position at City of Bloomington, MN?
Primary Objective
To assist with the daily operation of the Bloomington Ice Garden (BIG) while working in the main arena office or concession stand, selling or collecting game tickets, answer phones, selling food/merchandise, provide customer service, maintain building cleanliness, and complete other duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Minimum
BIG is open year round which allows for continues employment throughout the year. BIG is open from 6 a.m. through 11 p.m. most days of the year, including weekends and holidays, but hours can vary significantly based on ice and facility rentals. Staff usually work 4-8 hour shifts and average approximately 15-25 hours a week throughout the year.
Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligable for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.

- Ice Garden Attendant's primary responsibilities include working in the concession stand preparing food, operating a point of sale register, stocking product and cleaning space as needed throughout the shift.
- Additional responsibilities may include:
- Working in the main office,
- Working events,
- Taking tickets,
- Answering the phone,
- Sharpening skates,
- Perform basic building maintenance such as:
- Sweeping or vacuuming floors,
- Cleaning tables,
- Checking/restocking restrooms,
- Shoveling walkways
- All while providing high-quality customer service to BIG guests.
- Hiring range for this position is $15.50-$16.76/hour based on experience and qualifications
Minimum
- You must be available to work evenings and weekends and pass a background check to be considered for employment.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Position is year round (not just a summer position)
- Previous customer service experience is preferred,
- Previous recreation work experience is preferred
