The City of Bloomfield is seeking a motivated individual to join our Water Reclamation team. This position is designed as a career pathway, allowing you to enter as a Trainee, Operator I, or Operator II, depending on your experience and certifications.

YOUR CAREER PATH
TRAINEE – Entry Level
Learn the trade. Build your foundation.
- Assist in operation and maintenance of treatment systems and equipment
- Learn pumps, valves, sludge systems, and plant processes
- Collect samples and help monitor plant performance
- Perform cleaning, maintenance, and general facility upkeep
- Gain hands-on experience with SCADA, PLCs, and lab procedures
High school diploma/GED required
Valid NM driver's license
Obtain Level I certification within 18 months
OPERATOR I – Build Your Skills
Grow your knowledge and take on more responsibility.
- Independently monitor and operate treatment systems
- Record and analyze plant data and readings
- Adjust chemical dosing and process controls
- Inspect and maintain equipment and pump stations
- Support compliance with state and federal regulations
High school diploma/GED required and 1 year related experience or equivalent
Level I Wastewater Certification required
Progress toward Operator II within 18 months
OPERATOR II – Advanced Operator
Take ownership. Strengthen operations. Support the team.
- Perform advanced monitoring and process control
- Troubleshoot plant systems and equipment issues
- Interpret lab results and optimize performance
- Maintain detailed operational records
- Assist in training and supporting less experienced staff
High school diploma/GED required and experience in wastewater operations
Level II Wastewater Certification required
Advance toward Operator III within 24 months
YOUR FUTURE
- Senior Operator
What You'll Do (All Levels)
Across all levels, operators:
- Monitor pumps, motors, valves, and treatment systems
- Track flows, pressures, levels, and chemical processes
- Collect and analyze wastewater samples
- Maintain logs and regulatory records
- Inspect and maintain plant equipment
- Perform cleaning, repair, and preventive maintenance
- Operate tools and equipment (forklifts, cranes, pumps, etc.)

- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators
- On-call rotation and 24/7 availability as needed
