As an Accounting Technician I in Water Services, you are often the first person customers connect with when they have questions about their water service. Your day includes assisting customers in person and over the phone, helping them understand their utility bills, processing payments, and resolving account issues with care and accuracy. You’ll work closely with teammates across Water Services, meter reading, and field operations to coordinate service requests, start and stop water service, investigate usage concerns, and ensure customer accounts are accurate. What You'll Do
The following duties are a sample of major duties performed in this role and not intended to be an exhaustive list:
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service to create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem solving.
- Answer calls, emails, and in-person requests for information and service requests; provide general information on departmental and City programs and procedures, conducts preliminary research, inform and communicate result to the customer.
- Processes customer payments, sets up payment plans, addresses billing inquiries and disputes, updates customer information, manages account transfers, and assists with account-related inquiries.
- Initiates starting and terminating water services, schedules maintenance and repair services, responds to general inquiries and handles emergency service requests, assists with online account access, and provides information on water quality and safety.
- Provides information on water usage, advises on water conservation programs, addresses high usage concerns, investigates customer complaints, and escalates issues to appropriate levels if necessary.

- High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in this job description.
- Two (2) years of customer service, clerical or other relevant experience with basic accounting responsibilities; or experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks.
- Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
