A Typical Day In This Role
- Start your shift by checking service updates and daily assignments.
- Work at reference desks throughout the library.
- Share information about Summer Reading and engage families in seasonal activities.
- Support coworkers by preparing materials, assisting with projects, or helping keep service areas running smoothly.
- A strong communicator who enjoys helping others.
- Patient, welcoming, and able to stay calm under pressure.
- Excellent customer service.
- Enjoys working with people of all ages.
- Excited to share everything the library has to offer.

- Prior library experience is not required. Candidates with customer service, community engagement, recreation, administrative, IT help desk, facilities, or youth program backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
Public service and patron support
- Provide welcoming, inclusive, and efficient customer service to patrons of all ages.
- Connect patrons with resources to answer their questions and make awesome reading recommendations to patrons of all ages.
- Assist with locating books and resources in both print and digital formats.
- Support computer users with logging in, printing, scanning, and basic troubleshooting.
- Respond to patron questions in person, by phone, and by email.
- Promote and explain the Summer Reading program to families, teens, and adults.
- Encourage participation and help patrons track activities or locate recommended materials.
- Assist with maintaining an orderly, user-friendly public service environment.
- Help prep materials for outreach events and other library initiatives by packing materials.
- Contribute to a positive team culture built on communication and collaboration.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, and
- Four years of customer service or library experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.
- Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.
