Job Summary:

A Public Relations Officer administers the public relations program of a large agency and performs a variety of public information duties. Work of this class may involve supervising office support personnel.

Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience: Have three years in performing public information or public relations work.

OR

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public information and relations.
• Knowledge of the preparation of material for release to the media (press, radio and television).
• Knowledge of graphic arts, materials and applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with media, civic, social and community organizations, government agencies and the general public.
• Ability to plan and organize a promotional campaign.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

Selection Process

Examination Process
