General Description and Classification Standards
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a highly technical, hands-on role.
The position:
- Reports to the Assistant Director of Engineering.
- Provides senior-level electrical engineering direction, interdisciplinary coordination and technical leadership in support of design review staff during execution of Department of Aviation projects.
- Supports the Capital Improvement Program through technical design reviews and coordination with related projects.
- Provides technical support and coordination to Construction Managers and Project Managers, and Design Managers as requested.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates technical resources and engineering activities to accomplish specific task assignments in the areas of planning, project and facility management, design and design management, and construction management.
- Is a highly experienced professional who routinely exercises project-level technical leadership on complex projects, mentors or trains other professionals, or serves as a specialized subject-matter expert in one or more areas.
- Is expected to have significantly greater technical leadership and responsibility. This is a senior-level, hands-on role requiring extensive experience and technical expertise.
Supervision Received
Works independently, with supervisory contact primarily for administrative purposes. Assignments are given in terms of broad objectives, boundaries, and organizational priorities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are the typical responsibilities for this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee may be assigned other duties as needed.
- Reviews construction documents and related design tasks prepared by others, including on-call consultants, tenants, and local jurisdictions adjacent to the airport, to ensure compliance with engineering principles, department standards, contract requirements, and specifications.
- Oversee and review in-house electrical design to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to codes and standards.
- Develop scopes and budgets for design task orders.
- Provide input and direction for the development of Electrical design standards, technical specifications, and details.
- Coordination with Contracts staff and Dept. of Procurement officials in preparation of bidding documents.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders, including Planning Managers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Asset Managers, Facility Managers, Design Managers, tenants, outside consultants, contractors, and local jurisdictions.
- Manage design work performed by on-call consultants, ensuring compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
- Provide technical support to the Director of Engineering as requested.
- Ensure the highest quality of design in H-JAIA construction documents.
- Provides technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to other engineers as needed.
- Reviews shop drawings, requests for information, and submittals, as-built drawings, using construction management software and participating in construction administration activities, including site visits.
- Maintains and expands technical expertise, stay current on engineering practices, and provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to improve engineering services.
