School Violence Prevention Program Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, this position will be a member of, and the liaison for, the Arlington Police Department on the multidisciplinary threat assessment team for the Arlington Independent School District. This includes working with the School Resource Officer Sergeants regarding referred students and any necessary follow-up actions. The SVPP Coordinator will also collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team, including representatives from the Arlington Independent School District and MHMR Tarrant County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work under the direction of the Community Outreach Commander to assist in the development and implementation of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team's policies and procedures, including but not limited to:

  • Communicate the Arlington Police Department's policies and procedures related to Arlington ISD student discipline.

  • Ensure seamless communication with School Resource Officers and Sergeants.

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Arlington Police Department's partner agencies, including but not limited to:

• Arlington Independent School District

• MHMR Tarrant County.

• And other community organizations.

• Plan, organize, and facilitate meetings involving the School Resource Officer Unit, members of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team, and other stakeholders as needed.

• Lead the administrative functions of the Arlington Police Department's participation in the multidisciplinary threat assessment team, including data collection to support monthly reporting, and maintain records related to the multidisciplinary team as needed.

• Interact professionally with school-age youth, from pre-kindergarten through high school, and their parents or guardians when discussing multidisciplinary threat assessment interventions.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work in partnership with existing citywide programs and initiatives and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, youth, and families.

• Implement the goals and objectives of the School Violence Prevention Program and the Arlington ISD multidisciplinary threat assessment team; prepare and evaluate statistical reports as required; and evaluate and report on the quality and impact of the multidisciplinary threat assessment team's work.

• Assist the Grant Coordinator with programmatic reporting.

• Interact, as needed, with local, county, state, and federal officials and lawmakers to promote the multidisciplinary threat assessment team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.

• Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

• Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.

• Skill with organization and attention to detail.

• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.

• Ability to work independently under general instructions.

• Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.

• Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.

• Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.

• Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.

• Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.

• Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.

• Ability to work within a set schedule.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field required.

• Two (2) years of related professional experience required.

• Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Master's degree in a related field preferred.

• Experience working with a law enforcement agency and within a public-school environment is preferred.
