Volunteer Coordinator

The Ion Center for Violence Prevention is a non-profit agency in 13 Kentucky counties with an important mission: providing the best care of people of all identities who have been impacted by power-based personal violence and measurably reducing the number of people who have been hurt by it. The Ion Center is looking for a passionate self-driven individual that will build and lead a network of volunteers, create and facilitate group sessions for our community partners, and provide support to victim-survivors as the Volunteer Coordinator. JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Public Education & Community Engagement, oversees and supervises the volunteer program; promotes the agency through networking, supports development of new group curriculum, support group facilitation, recruits and trains volunteers for direct service and public education and prevention programs, agency displays, and special events/projects.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Applies ZeroV Victim Service Standards and the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs (KASAP) Standards for survivors of rape

Program Development and Management.

1.1 Maintain and build agency volunteer participation

1.2 Manage volunteer schedule for agency programs.

1.3 Coordinate community partner and special interest volunteer groups.

1.4 Development sustainability plan for volunteer engagement and recruitment.

1.5 Compile monthly data stats for volunteer activity.

1.6 Facilitate portions “Foundation Training” of new volunteers, new staff, and students

1.7 Maintain volunteer database/schedule system

1.8 Support Ion Center in providing essential services to victims, including hospital advocacy on call, hotline, and emergency shelter.

1.9 Represent agency at relevant State and local meetings and participate on community committees to serve victims

Volunteer Supervision

2.1 Ensure volunteers receive continued training and are equipped for the volunteer activity they are scheduled to perform

2.2 Provide regular coaching to volunteers throughout their service

2.3 Manage required continuing education hours and records of time

2.4 Engage volunteers through regular interactions that are not related to agency services

2.5 Provide volunteers with updates on hospital and law enforcement protocols and practices.

2.6 Manage supplies for volunteers

2.7 Recognize and celebrate volunteers for their service

Group Programming within Agency & Community

3.1 Identify agency and community group needs

3.2 Develop relationships and coordinate requests for groups from community organizations

3.3 Adapt programming and presentations to meet diverse needs of clients and community

3.4 Facilitate and coordinate trauma informed groups

3.5 Facilitate and coordinate trainings for community professionals

3.6 Attend community meetings and events on behalf of agency, including representation on community committees

Communication, Teamwork, and Administration Duties

4.1 Maintain volunteer files and documentation.

4.2 Attend related meetings and trainings

4.3 Report stats for funders

4.4 Accept and disseminate donations

4.5 Contribute to a clean, healthy, and trauma informed work environment

4.6 Collaborate as a team across agency sites.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, skills, etc.):

1. Knowledge and skills at a level typically acquired through obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of volunteer or work experience.

2. Outstanding oral, written, and visual presentation skills

3. Skills in training, leading, organizing, advising, planning, and working independently.

4. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care

5. Ability to work under highly stressful, crisis-oriented situations

6. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality

7. Outstanding empathetic and listening skills

8. Ability to work independently and collaborate on a team

9. Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

10. Complete trainings for funding requirements and knowledge building

11. Must be minimum age of 18.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WHICH OCCUR REGULARLY IN PERFORMING THE JOB:

• Speaking, seeing, hearing, standing, writing, walking, including climbing steps, carry, pull, lift, stoop, kneel

• Using related office equipment keyboard and monitor, camera, copier, fax, phones, etc.
