NATURE OF WORK
Under the general supervision of the City Administrator, the Community Development Coordinator/Assistant City Administrator participates in, the activities of various city economic development, oversees planning and zoning activities and is required to make daily decisions based upon city, state, and federal regulations; and is expected to clearly communicate verbally and in writing. This position assists with the coordination of municipal services and provides additional support to the City Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Community Development Coordinator
· Prepares and conducts technical studies, designs, reports, comprehensive plans, parks and open space planning, orderly growth agreements, demographic analysis, and similar long-range and strategic planning activities for the City.
· Acts as the Director of Economic Development Authority; and serves as the Zoning Administrator and City Planner
· Administers the functions of Zoning, annexations, variances, coordination of development and redevelopment review processes, administers planning and zoning administration agreements with the townships, and similar land use requests for the city.
· Manage codification of local ordinances
· Coordinates the administration, enforcement, and interpretation of the City zoning ordinances; responds to land use complaints; presents findings of fact regarding zoning ordinance violations to the City Attorney and applicable boards and commissions
· Prepares ordinances and resolutions; and amendments to City zoning ordinances; and amendments to City land use plans.
Assistant City Administrator
· Assist with Budget preparation and Strategic Planning initiatives
· Assists with the administration of state and federal grants, including writing grant applications, reviewing cost documentation for reimbursement, submitting payment requests, and submitting required reports.
· Advises City officials, both elected and appointed; and serves as staff liaison to the City Planning Commission, City Council, and other community and citizen advisory groups.
· Provide administrative and operational support to the City Administrator in areas of personnel management, coordinating city projects, and assisting in the fulfillment of daily administrative objectives.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
· Communicates work activities and projects information regularly to the City Administrator.
· Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
· Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary. May be required to attend council meetings in absence of City Administrator.
· Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
· Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent.

HOURS OF WORK
General working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., and outside of regular hours as necessary, including occasional evening meetings.
