General Information
Under general supervision, records and prepares minutes of board hearings; proofreads or spell checks own work within a short timeframe.
The clerk must attend all Board of Review meetings. These are held during May and June, with an educational meeting held in late April. The exact days and times fluctuate with the amount of protests that are filed. The hearing times are generally from 9:30 to 11:30 in the mornings and 1:30 to 3:30 in the afternoons. Occasionally the hearings will run longer than the scheduled time, so some flexibility is required. Additional hours will be necessary for timely transcription, preparation, and review of the minutes.

Examples of Essential Job Functions
Responsible for taking minutes of board hearings. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and be familiar with and able to paste Microsoft Excel tables into Word. A template for recording notes is provided as guidance.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Successful completion of high school, HiSet, or G.E.D.; two years of diversified office clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous minute taking experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of business English and composition, basic arithmetic and modern office procedures and equipment.
Skill in operating a computer terminal and other standard office equipment; skill in performing a variety of general office procedures such as typing, filing and answering the telephone.
Ability to maintain an accurate and efficient office filing system; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to compose routine correspondence; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; ability to efficiently and accurately enter data into a computer; ability to establish an effective working relationship with co-workers at all levels, board members, citizens, and the general public; ability to type a minimum of 45 net words per minute.

Required Physical Activities: Hearing, talking, reaching, grasping, repetitive motions, and manual dexterity.
Physical Characteristics of Work: Sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time.
Vision Requirements: The minimum standard for those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and written information, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
Environmental Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Selection Process:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, phone interview, on-site interview which will include a manager meeting and written exercise and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status. **Preference may be given to applicants possessing qualifications above the minimum.**
Depending on the number of qualified candidates, the City may forego phone interviews.
