CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER
Position Available Immediately, Open Until Filled
Wage Range (As of 10/1/2025): $26.18 - $34.47 per hour depending on qualifications/experience. See complete FOP wage scale with scheduled increases 10/1/25 - 9/30/2028: FOP Wages 2025 - 2028
HIRING BONUS FOR LATERAL TRANSFERS: Full-time Police Officers currently certified in the State of Nebraska at the time of hire may be eligible to receive up to $20,000 as a hiring bonus, and/or to purchase equivalent vacation leave hours. Hiring bonus amount must be authorized by the City Manager. *Hiring bonus is subject to the current Hiring and Retention Pay Policy as approved by City Council.

About the Job: The individual will serve and protect the community by police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities and use experience and judgment to respond to emergencies, preserve the peace and enforce the law. Hours involve rotating shifts to provide 24-hour coverage. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance as well as vacation and sick leave, holiday pay and participation in retirement plan.
Working for the City: The City offers an excellent benefit package including single or family medical, dental, vision, life and supplemental insurance, a matching retirement plan with 9% contribution by the employee and matched by the City, vacation, sick leave, comp time accrual, floating holidays and paid holidays. The City also offers an In-Lieu of benefit of $4200 per year for employees with other medical coverage, or a health savings account (HSA) with a City contribution of up to $140/month for qualified participants to help pay for out of pocket medical expenses. Sworn staff also have the use of take-home patrol vehicles. Officers are scheduled to allow for multiple days off in a row when possible (i.e. 4 on-3 off/ 3 on-4 off, etc.) to ensure staff maintain a positive work-life balance.

Experience: Certified applicants must have graduated from a full-time certified police academy; been employed a minimum of two years as a full-time police officer in a single jurisdiction in which the training and experience qualify for Certification in Nebraska. This accelerated lateral process applies to applicants with at least 2 years of equivalent experience. Out-of-state certified officers will also be considered.

The Alliance Police Department consists of seventeen (17) sworn positions and eight (11) civilian personnel. The Department’s command staff includes the Chief of Police and two Lieutenants. Supporting the command staff are four Sergeants, all who are assigned to the Patrol Division.
