What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position at City of Corsicana?
The City of Corsicana is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This position supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of the city’s wastewater treatment facilities as required to meet stringent conditions as set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Plans and Participates in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facilities
Services pumps, motors and other plant equipment and machinery
Reads and interprets charts and flow meters and adjusts operation as required to meet effluent conditions as set by governmental regulatory agencies
Prepares daily reports as required to document treatment operations
Records and identifies requirements and provides input as required for plant chemical and operations budget
Collects and submits plant samples to analytical laboratory
Operates plant on 24-hour per day schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Interprets technical manuals as required for safe and effective treatment of wastewater
Works directly with outside laboratories and state and federal environmental health officials and inspectors
Responsible for total operation of treatment processes on off-shifts and weekends when on duty alone
Assists with the supervision of operations of outside contractors
Cleans and maintains plant facility as necessary to prevent contact with waterborne diseases
Performs other tasks as related to the position of as directed by the Wastewater Superintendent or the Director of Environmental Services
High School Diploma or GED required
Working knowledge of wastewater treatment systems
Familiarity with laboratory practices in water chemistry and microbiology
Understanding of health practices to prevent the spread of water-borne disease
Must attend training courses and have the ability to obtain and maintain:
Grade “D” Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License within 1 year of hire
Grade “C” Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License within 2 years of hire, as issued by TCEQ
Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, equipment, and safety protocols
Ability to interpret laboratory procedures and test results
Capable of operating treatment plant machinery, valves, and hand tools
Able to follow verbal and written instructions clearly
Strong recordkeeping and communication skills
Ability to work independently and respond to alarms and emergencies
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Frequent climbing in and out of ditches, ladders, and stairs
Sufficient strength to handle tools and to open large valves
Must be able to see, hear alarms, distinguish colors, and communicate clearly
Must work in varying weather conditions and navigate plant terrain
Required to operate tractors, dump trucks, and other mechanical equipment
Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
Subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality
Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period
Must pass a criminal background check, fitness-for-duty physical, and drug screen
