Position Description
Part-Time African-American Studies Instructor would be responsible for the instruction of one or more of the following African-American Studies ( AFAM ) courses: AFAM 30: African-American Consciousness, AFAM 40: The Black Experience in CA, AFAM 42: Theories History of Race and Ethnicity, AFAM 55: From Funk to Hip-Hop, & AFAM 60: African American Women in the U.S. during the fall and spring semesters.
Job Duties
1. Teach one or more of the following African-American Studies ( AFAM ) courses AFAM 30, AFAM 40, AFAM 42, AFAM 55, and AFAM 60. Teach in-person day, afternoon, evening, hybrid, and/or online classes at the college and at other non-campus sites where CCSF classes are taught.
2. Develop relevant and current course curriculum and content
2. Evaluate and report student learning outcomes (SLO’s) for courses taught each semester.
3. Teach day, evening, weekend, and/or online classes, or classes at one or more sites as required.
4. Submit Census report and grades in a timely manner.
5. Participate in a positive and collegial manner in department or college functions.
6. Support and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps. Participate in required department, division, and school meetings, professional development sessions and trainings, and Flex Days.
7. Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racist pedagogy.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
2. Earned Master’s Degree in African-American/Black/Africana Studies from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Earned Bachelor’s Degree in African-American/Black/Africana Studies AND Master’s Degree in Ethnic Studies from an accredited institution;
OR THE EQUIVALENT .

Desirable Qualifications
1. Masters of Arts in Ethnic Studies or related field with an emphasis on the African-American or Africana experience, and/or the African Diaspora.
2. Community college teaching experience in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic setting.
3. Experience working within the African-American or communities of the African Diaspora, and/or professional work experience in addition to classroom teaching.
4. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of African-American communities, culture, and history.
5. Experience working with socially, culturally, and ethnically diverse student and faculty population.
6. Online teaching experience.
7. Experience managing and working with student organizations
8. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.
9. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
