In this role, you’ll perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure our buildings, structures, and equipment remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained.
What You Will Do
- Inspect, maintain, and repair buildings, structures, equipment, and facilities at the Honolulu Zoo.
- Perform carpentry, painting, masonry, metal, plumbing, and electrical work on repairs and new construction.
- Estimate materials, time, and costs and report major repair needs.
- Assist contractors and City service agencies with repair and maintenance projects.
- Support Zoo operations and events by maintaining equipment, tools, and setups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
- May be scheduled to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, mechanical, and electrical trades.
- Knowledge of plumbing and electrical equipment in buildings.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to determine the need for repairs involving a variety of building trades.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, power equipment, and testing devices utilized in a variety of building trades.
- Ability to install electrical and plumbing fixtures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to estimate time and material needed to perform a job.
