The Department of Environmental Services , Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division , is looking to fill three (3) Assistant Construction Inspector positions. The position inspects various phases of wastewater construction projects that involve the installation of sewer lines and appurtenances to assure compliance with plans, specifications, and other contractual agreements. The position also inspects work for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including but not limited to, those imposed by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education Requirement
Equivalent to a high school education. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience Requirement
One (1) year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.
Examples Of Qualifying Experience
Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trades supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

What You Will Do
- Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activities including grading, paving, concrete, reinforcing steel, pile driving, and backfill.
- Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Verify completed work for contractor payments and project progress.
- Enforce contract compliance by documenting deficiencies and coordinating corrective actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work in field environments with exposure to construction and traffic hazards, electrical hazards, paint fumes, sewer treatment chemicals, sewage gases, and moving equipment.
- Perform physical field work, including climbing ladders, entering trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying equipment, and walking on uneven terrain.
- May be required to travel to job sites using a City or personal vehicle.
- Regular work hours are anticipated; however, may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations.
- Serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

- An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
