The Broomfield Police Department is in search of a Victim Advocate to serve in a temporary assignment, April-August 2026 (five months).
The Victim Advocate provides essential advocacy and support to victims and witnesses of crime while navigating the criminal justice process. In this position, you will work collaboratively across agencies to deliver holistic, mandated services while fostering an innovative and resilient team culture.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples Of Duties
- Provides crisis intervention and assistance to victims of crime and survivors of victims in order to help them regain physical and mental well-being by means of immediate crisis intervention, advocacy, and community referrals.
- Assists in preparing and maintaining lists of community resources and makes referrals to these resources as necessary.
- Works closely as a liaison with the District Attorney’s Office in coordination with their victims’ assistance programs.
- Assists with filing and statistical systems to ensure that victim and assistance information is available for periodic reports of accomplishments.
- Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state, and city/county rules and regulations.
- Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences as necessary for the maintenance of effective services.
- Assists volunteers in performing duties when required.
- Follows department policies and procedures.
- Operates a motor vehicle and personal computer.
- Uses all provided safety equipment.
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, statutorily mandated crime victims rights, law enforcement and courts, as well as the principles as objectives of a Victim Services Unit.
- Ability to exercise judgment in disseminating information and handling sensitive matters as dictated by CJIS and CORA.
- Ability to understand and respond to victim and witness needs.
- Ability to work with a variety of people as well as culturally diverse populations.
- Maintains current Colorado Drivers License and clean driving record.
- Ability to exercise considerable initiative and sound judgment with limited supervision in a variety of situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, employees, the public, and other law enforcement/community-based agencies.
- Ability to organize tasks and working environments to maximize efficiency.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
- Training -
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, psychology, criminal justice, or a closely related field is preferred.
- Experience –
- 1 year experience in the victim services or similar professional experience in the human services field, including experience working with victims and witnesses of crime or traumatic incidents, the criminal justice system, and statutorily mandated rights of crime victims required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment.
- The noise level in the environment is moderate.
- The work schedule is varied, and the employee must be available to work any day of the week including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. The employee must be on-call and available to respond to emergencies within 30 minutes with little or no notice.
- Frequently required to sit, talk or hear, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
