Survey Technician II

General Description

The Survey Technician II calculates accurate survey data and operates survey equipment to measure land boundaries and elevations. Works according to set procedures and under direct supervision of the crew chief. The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Essential Functions

• Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
• Uses various survey instruments to compile accurate survey data including, but not limited to, robotic total stations and prism set-ups. Have basic knowledge of GPS and experience running an optical level and creating level notes.
• Records accurate data in data collector machine and occasionally in field book.
• Reads and interprets drawings, maps, plats, and other references occasionally.
• Clears survey sites using machetes and other equipment to open survey lines in wooded and field areas creating paths for measuring and sighting.
• Operates safety vehicle and equipment. Inspects, cleans, and maintains tools and equipment daily.
• Interacts occasionally with public and answers questions and addresses concerns.
• Participates in departmental activities.
• Performs daily truck inventory and equipment and charges batteries.
• Uploads and downloads data collector in office. Performs office duties including, but not limited to: record scanning, filing, making copies, filling out daily job log forms, as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.
  
  

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1) year of course work in surveying principles or experience in land surveying or a combination of both.
  
  

Skills And Abilities

• Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
• Possess basic knowledge of surveying principles and methods, mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment and tools.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, plats, drawings, and survey references, accurately record and manage survey data.
• Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
• Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  
  

Certificates and Licenses

• Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
• Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
• IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
• IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
• The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
• The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, twisting and occasional crawling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders.
• The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, and driving automotive equipment.
• The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception, hearing, and speaking.
• The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities

• All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
