General Description

Under general supervision, functions as the administrative assistant to the Parks and Recreation Director. Performs a variety of administrative, clerical, and customer service responsibilities to support departmental operations. Provides assistance to staff, patrons, and the public while ensuring efficient and effective office procedures. The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is located at the Citrus County Resource Center in Lecanto, Florida.

Essential Functions

  • Answer telephones and assists caller or directs to appropriate personnel.
  • Creates, edits, copies, publishes, and distributes publications, newsletters, and informational materials.
  • Provides backup support for payroll functions, including submitting and approving payroll through online systems.
  • Prepares letters, memoranda, reports, and other documents for general correspondence.
  • Sorts and distributes incoming mail; coordinates courier services for outgoing deliveries.
  • Maintains accurate files, records, and documentation in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Monitors inventory levels and orders office and operational supplies as needed.
  • Maintains and balances recreation-based software systems and related records.
  • Processes rental permits for fields, pavilions, and concession areas across various county park sites.
  • Provides administrative support for boat launch operations.
  • Receives and processes payments for rentals, ticket sales, and other applicable fees.
  • Delivers excellent customer service to patrons, staff, and the general public.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements and oversees purchasing card transactions.
  • Processes agenda memorandums, invoices, and collections in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ experience performing administrative/clerical duties.

Skills And Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and strong attention to detail required.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to type and compose routine business letters and memorandum.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to plan, prioritize, multi-task and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines while maintaining flexibility.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

Certificates, Licenses, And Other Requirements

  • Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
  • May require Notary Public Certification.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Requires sitting most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, balancing, twisting, reaching above shoulders, and occasional squatting and kneeling.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, fine manual manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception, hearing, and speaking.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities

  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.

Medical Insurance - (Carrier: Florida Blue): Employee Premium is $50.00 monthly. Dependent coverage is available with bi-weekly premiums (please review detailed premiums using the link below).

  • Wellness Incentive: New Hires will have the option of submitting to a nicotine test during the pre-employment physical. Those that are nicotine free will receive a $50 wellness incentive monthly applied towards their health premium costs.
