Day-to-Day Duties: Answer multi-line telephones, route calls, greet visitors, respond to inquiries from the public and provide information about the organization. Need to be courteous, professional, and helpful. Contribute to the security of an organization by helping to monitor the access of visitors.
Teller: Cashes checks, accepts deposits and loan payments, processes withdrawals including cash and checks, and cashes savings bonds. All transactions require that the teller verify the date, accuracy of amounts, bank name, and identification of person to receive or make payment, legality of document and funds availability. Prior to starting their shift, receives and counts an amount of working cash for their drawer. Cash is used for payments during the day, and the Teller is responsible for its safe and accurate handling. Before leaving, tellers reconcile cash on hand. Over the course of the day, tellers replenish cash drawers and corroborate deposits and payments to a teller computer program - Vertex and Xperience.
Qualifications, skills and abilities: TWO YEARS CASH HANDLING EXPERIENCE MAY BE REQUIRED FOR ANY APPLICANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. Training is primarily on-the-job. Tellers have excellent communication skills, enjoy working with the public and possess a strong math aptitude. Tellers must be comfortable handling large amounts of cash and working with computers. Accuracy and attention to detail in record keeping and short-term memory are vital.
Working Conditions: Management may electronically monitor use of computer systems, tape record telephone calls or limit the time spent on each call. Usually work a standard 40-hour week. Work may be repetitious and stressful; may spend all day answering telephones while performing additional clerical or secretarial tasks or sit for long periods of time and occasionally contend with high noise levels caused by various office machines. Tellers stoop, bend, lift, and stand over the course of a workday. Lift coins (ex. $500.00 worth of quarters) and money drawer. Prolonged exposure to display terminal.
