CiTi BOCES is seeking dependable, student-centered Substitute Teaching Assistants to support Regional Summer School programs serving students in grades 9-12. Substitute Teaching Assistants will provide essential classroom support in the absence of the regular Teaching Assistant, helping to ensure continuity of services and a structured, supportive learning environment.
This role is ideal for individuals who are flexible, collaborative, and committed to supporting diverse learners, including students participating in credit recovery and academic skill development.
Responsibilities
Assist the classroom teacher in implementing instructional activities and lesson plans
Provide academic and behavioral support to students individually or in small groups
Support students with IEPs and 504 plans under the direction of the teacher
Help maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment
Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, and designated times as assigned
Reinforce classroom routines, expectations, and behavioral supports
Assist with classroom materials, organization, and preparation
Monitor student engagement and report concerns to the teacher or administration
Take direction from the teacher or administrator to adapt support based on student needs
Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times
Participate in any required orientation or training sessions
Monitor student progress and assist with feedback as directed by the teacher
Assist with attendance and basic record-keeping
Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student needs
Participate in required orientation and training sessions
Fulfill all duties associated with summer school procedures, expectations, and timelines

Qualifications
Required:
NYS Teaching Assistant Certification
Preferred:
Experience working with secondary students (grades 9–12)
Experience supporting students with disabilities or at-risk populations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
Patience, flexibility, and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage student behavior in a supportive and consistent manner
