The Exceptional Education Specialist is a member of the Coordinator's unit and works under the supervision of the Director of Exceptional & Alternative Education. This role supports regulatory compliance across all CiTi programs and provides guidance to Teaching Assistants, Teachers, Counselors/Behavior Specialists, and administrators in the development and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), social-emotional learning (SEL), and crisis intervention practices.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing professional development and possess strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide coaching and guidance in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to identify the root causes of student behavior
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aligned with student needs and IEP goals
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of behavioral data to inform decision-making
- Guide staff in adjusting interventions based on data trends and student response
- Support the implementation of evidence-based behavior support strategies across settings
- Strengthen Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS), including Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Support the development and implementation of mental health support systems within programs
- Provide guidance and professional development on social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum implementation and integration into daily practice
- Deliver job-embedded support through:
- Classroom and program-based coaching
- Embedded professional development opportunities
Program and Department Support
- Collaborate with the Director on special projects and organizational priorities
- Promote consistency and fidelity of practices across all CiTi programs

Job Qualifications
Required NYS Certification (one of the following):
- School Psychologist
- School Counselor
- School Social Worker
- Special Education Teacher
- NYS School District Leader Certification preferred
Skills and Experience:
- Strong collaboration, coaching, and communication skills
- Experience providing professional development preferred
Demonstrated Knowledge of:
- Special education regulations and compliance
