POSITION OVERVIEW
Position: Construction Superintendent
Location: Annapolis, MD (Field travel required to project job sites)
We're seeking an experienced and driven Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on structural steel, welding, and fabrication projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in ironworking and structural steel who is capable of managing crews, interpreting engineered drawings, and delivering projects safely and on schedule. Experience in bridge construction or maintenance is a significant plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all on-site construction activities for structural steel fabrication, welding, and ironwork projects from mobilization through project close-out.
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate field crews, subcontractors, and tradespeople to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
- Read, interpret, and enforce adherence to engineered drawings, structural plans, shop drawings, and project specifications.
- Travel to job sites as required — including regional and out-of-area locations — to manage active construction projects.
- Coordinate daily work schedules, manpower allocation, and equipment needs to maintain project timelines and budgets.
- Enforce all company and OSHA safety policies; conduct daily safety toolbox talks and maintain a zero-incident culture on every job site.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews and project management / engineering teams.
- Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and RFIs in a timely manner, escalating to the VP when necessary.
- Monitor and document daily field activities, progress reports, man-hours, material usage, and any site incidents.
- Ensure proper handling, staging, and installation of structural steel members, ironwork components, and fabricated assemblies.
- Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Coordinate with owners, inspectors, and government representatives, particularly on public infrastructure and bridge projects.
- Assist with project estimating, scheduling, and pre-construction planning as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in structural steel construction, ironworking, or heavy industrial construction.
- Demonstrated experience running and supervising field crews in a superintendent or foreman capacity.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineered structural drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and shop drawings.
- Strong ironworking background including structural steel erection, bolting, and field welding operations.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project job sites, including extended travel as projects require.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction site safety standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work in varying outdoor environments, at heights, and in physically demanding conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in bridge construction, bridge repair, or bridge maintenance work — this is a strong differentiator for this role.
Salary : $100,000 - $160,000
