Job Summary
At Cinder Wood Productions, we create beautiful charred Japanese-style finishes, (shou sugi ban), as well as a variety of other finished products. We are hiring for a number of different positions but all of them require hands-on production work, alongside the team and business owner. From applying siding finishes to managing inventory, driving a forklift (if certified), wrapping shipments for transport and creating stunning finishes using custom machinery.
Most of CWP’s products are installed by other parties so installation does not normally form part of this role. However, exceptions may arise from time to time.
Quality is of the utmost importance at CWP. What you don’t know, you will be taught. And once you learn, you will be expected to teach others and continue the CWP tradition of quality.
We strive very hard to keep things enjoyable at work. We are only seeking those that are interested in learning our methods and helping to grow our company. The work is challenging and requires grit and adaptation as orders move through quickly and we even need to be on site at times.
Required Skills
- Physically Fit: Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds, demonstrated physical stamina and strength.
- Equipment Operation: Proficiency and familiarity with hand and power tools used in woodworking, painting and staining. Operating machinery such as pickup trucks and forklifts (must hold licenses), ATVs and small cranes.
- Technical Knowledge: A basic understanding of lumber types, cutting techniques, and basic woodworking or carpentry skills
- Knowledge of - or willingness to learn - safety protocols is paramount. Ability to read blueprints would helpful for understanding construction plans, lumber profiles and custom orders.
- Calculation Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations in your head or on paper. This is used for calculating measurements, placing orders and making sales transactions as well as taking inventory.
- Organizational Skills: Efficiently managing inventory, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse and yard, and effective time management of yourself and possibly a small team.
- Teamwork and Positive Approach to Problem-Solving: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team. The capacity to address challenges with optimism, collaboration and teamwork and make informed decisions on the job.
