Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on, driven Facilities Electrical Engineer to join our growing team in Montpelier, Iowa. In this role, you will not be confined to an office chair or a computer screen. Instead, you will own the electrical backbone of our massive, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. You will split your time between managing high-voltage substation assets and engineering major electrical capital projects. Key Responsibilities
- Substation & Power Distribution Ownership: Conduct routine substation health checks, monitor large transformer oil sampling, and oversee high/medium-voltage distribution switching and load transfers.
- System Studies & Relay Programming: Perform system coordination studies to ensure proper relay coordination, monitor load flows, and program relays using GE/Multilin and Schweitzer (SEL) software.
- Capital Project Management: Develop and manage electrical capital projects from initial concept to completion, collaborating closely with facility engineering and maintaining accurate single-line drawings.
- Contractor Oversight: Supervise and evaluate the work of third-party electrical contractors to ensure all installations meet our high standards and safety guidelines.
- High-Voltage Maintenance & Safety: Support safety initiatives, including developing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and coordinating Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for 5kV motors.
- 24/7 Emergency Response: Provide on-call coverage for power-related issues to ensure our continuous, round-the-clock operations remain safe and efficient.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- Foundational knowledge of electrical power distribution, transformers, and medium-voltage safety.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with onsite technicians, leadership, and external contractors.
- A proactive learning attitude and a high level of reliability, with a genuine desire to work in a heavy industrial, hands-on environment.
- The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain a calm, professional composure during critical power issues.
