JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Invention Evaluation Leadership - Leads the strategic evaluation, protection, and licensing of Cincinnati Children’s intellectual property assets. Oversees the triage and development of invention disclosures, patenting strategy, and intellectual property transactions with industry. Drives the department’s scientific and commercial licensing strategy, manages complex deal negotiations, and supervises a team of portfolio professionals responsible for evaluating, marketing, and commercializing institutional innovations. Directs assessment of invention disclosures for novelty, commercial potential, and strategic value. Intellectual Property Strategy and Licensing - Responsible for intellectual property strategy and licensing. Guides patenting decisions and leads negotiation of high-value intellectual property licenses and other commercialization contracts. Acts as a senior subject matter expert on intellectual property strategy and technology evaluation. Directs strategic oversight of the intellectual property portfolio across disclosure, assessment, protection, and licensing. Faculty and Inventor Engagement - Advises researchers on intellectual property protection, market alignment, and commercialization pathways. Builds trusted relationships with faculty to foster a culture of innovation, guiding them through the translational process from idea to impact. Advises on licensing and spinout potential. Team Leadership - Leads team in reviewing all new disclosures. Directs invention evaluation, supports patent filings, and informs protection strategy. Manages the portfolio team including senior and junior Portfolio Managers to ensure quality and consistency in intellectual property evaluation. Provides mentorship and leads institutional priorities for intellectual property portfolio development. Aligns individual strengths with strategic goals to drive high-impact outcomes. Cross-Functional Coordination and Stakeholder Industry Relations - Collaborates with legal, commercialization, and operations teams to align strategy and workflow and optimize outcomes. Drives integration of strategic initiatives by ensuring consistent communication, shared objectives, and streamlined processes across functional teams. Cultivates strategic relationships around intellectual property with external licensees, industry collaborators, and institutional stakeholders to accelerate innovation adoption and maximize impact.
