Instructional Designer
Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Instructional Designer to join our team. The Instructional Designer will serve as a learning experience architect, collaborating with faculty and staff to design adaptive, engaging, and data-informed learning environments across modalities. This role involves applying best practices in instructional design, integrating technology effectively, and ensuring that learning materials meet quality standards. This is a full-time, on-campus, non-union position with occasional flexibility for remote work as project needs allow.
Key Responsibilities:
Course Development:
- Collaborate with faculty to design and develop engaging instructional materials and courses.
- Utilize instructional design models and best practices to create engaging and accessible course content, assessments, and activities.
Curriculum Alignment:
- Ensure that course materials align with Program Learning Objectives, Course Learning Objectives, and Module Learning Objectives.
- Review and refine course content to ensure alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all course materials meet institutional quality standards and accessibility guidelines (e.g., ADA compliance).
- Conduct reviews and revisions of existing courses to enhance effectiveness and engagement.
Training and Support:
- Provide faculty with training and support in instructional design principles, online teaching best practices, and the use of the learning management system.
- Develop and deliver workshops, webinars, and one-on-one consultations to assist faculty in the effective use of instructional practices, technologies, and systems.
- Facilitate AI-enhanced learning communities and peer engagement strategies.
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Develop assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of instructional materials and courses.
- Analyze feedback and learning analytics to make data-driven improvements.
Technology and AI Integration:
- Identify and integrate appropriate educational technologies and multimedia elements to enhance learning experiences.
- Provide guidance on the effective use of the institution's Learning Management System.
- Leverage AI tools to personalize learning experiences and automate content generation.
- Use learning analytics (e.g., Tableau, LMS data) to inform course design and improve learner outcomes.
Project Management:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to facilitate smooth project execution.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Proven experience with LMS platforms (e.g., Blackboard, Brightspace, or Canvas).
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of pedagogical principles and learning theories.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt to individuals’ levels of knowledge and expertise.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and teams.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with AI tools for instructional design and video creation (ChatGPT, Bard, Gemini, Copilot).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Quality Matters (QM) standards and certification.
- Familiarity with gamification and interactive learning strategies.
- Experience in evaluating and implementing emerging educational technologies.
