Summary

CICONIX, LLC is seeking an AnatomicalLaboratory Specialist with experience in conservation of anatomical specimens, histological preparation and/or necropsy/autopsy assistance to support the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM).

About The Role

• Responsiblefortheroutineconservationofthemuseum’swettissueandhistologicalcollectionsand documentation of conservation activities.
• Preparesnewwettissueandskeletalpreparationsfollowingmuseumprotocolsandhelpsto develop and refine same.
• Routinelyworkswithchemicalsandbiohazardousmaterialsinaccordwithmuseumpolicyand procedure as well as federal and state health and safety standards.
• Assistslabmanagerinconductingregularsafetychecksinanatomicallaboratoriesandhelps ensures the lab remains compliant with relevant health and safety standards.
• Maintainsstrictinventorycontrolsinrelocatingandtransportingspecimensbetweenthelaband storage areas and documenting work on appropriate forms and databases.
• Managesequipmentandsuppliesforanatomicallaboratoriesandsubmitspurchaseandservice requests as needed.
• Examinesspecimensanddeterminesmethodsofpreparationandstainingtobestdemonstrate characteristics to be studied.
• Work requires thorough knowledge and proficiency in tissue orientation and embedding in paraffinwaxandpropermicrotomyandstainingtechniquesofalltissuetypes,includingbone.
• Providessupportforrelevantpublicprogramsandexhibitsas required.
• PerformweeklyoperatorsafetyinspectionsontheEmergencyEyewashandEmergencyShower stations.
• Receives OSHA required annual physical for lab technician.

Qualifications

Education:

• Four (4) years of study in an accredited college or university in the field of Anatomy, Biology, Physical Anthropology, or a related scientific field.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

• 5 years of laboratory experience in conservation of anatomical specimens, histological preparation and/or necropsy/autopsy assistance.
• Extensive knowledge and skill in the applications and methodsusedinthepreservationandfixationoftissuespecimens,processing,embedding,microtomy,and staining.
• Basic knowledge of biology, chemistry and solution preparation acquired through experience, education and/or on-the-job training.
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all specialized and general laboratory equipment used in the laboratory.
• Skilled in creation of electronic spreadsheets and updating databases.
• Occupational health clearance for use of respirator and work within a BSL-2 environment.

Security & Background Check:

• U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to comply with the g overnment vaccination requirements.
• Occasional travel may be required.
