Guitar Repair Technician

Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center
Silver, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 7/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/24/2026
In a rare occurrence, WMC has an opening for a full-time Guitar Repair Technician!

In order to meet growing demand and maintain our shop's quality output, this position will require the ideal candidate to have veteran guitar repair expertise coupled with excellent interpersonal skills. While we welcome all interest, this is a job for an experienced professional only rather than a budding hobbyist and priority will be given accordingly. Applicants with certifications from major manufacturers like Taylor, Martin, Fender, and Gibson are strongly preferred.

As a Guitar Tech, your work is critical and directly linked to our “client experience.” The work you will do in this role helps keep customers returning to WMC over and over again. With all necessary equipment provided, this is a fantastic alternative to a technical expert operating an individual shop. The duties of this job require a high degree of expertise and skill in maintaining established standards of quality and accuracy. Drive, determination, and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet these established criteria are necessary for successful job performance. The work requires specialized technical problem solving and ingenuity while working within approved organizational systems and technology, and the demonstration of the values of integrity, quality, and caution.

As a full-time employee, you would have access to benefits such as health, dental, life insurance, 401(k), and paid leave. Exact hours are flexible but Saturday availability might be required. Compensation commensurate with experience.

To apply, submit a resume and brief cover letter or portfolio detailing your history in instrument repair.

General Requirements:

  • At least one year of guitar setup or repair experience in a professional setting
  • Familiarity with acoustic and electric guitars across many styles and brands
  • Certification(s) from guitar repair program preferred but not necessary

Who You Are:

  • Extremely competent with stringed instrument repair and luthierie
  • Organized and meticulous
  • Motivated and able to work independently
  • Conscientious
  • Detail-oriented
  • A self-starter focused on efficiency
  • Comfortable speaking with customers in person, via telephone, or by email
  • Friendly and easy-going with coworkers and customers alike
  • Familiar and proficient with modern computer skill expectations

What You'd Do:

Aside from the ability to visually and sonically access instruments in a quick manner, all qualified applicants must be able to perform the following work on acoustic and electric guitars and basses with little to no supervision:

  • All common setup specifications (intonation, action, truss rod adjustment, etc.)
  • Full restorations
  • Filing, cutting, or installing nuts/bridges
  • Installing and swapping pickups
