Guitar Technician

Xu Strings Guitar and Bass Repair
Rockville, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 8/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/25/2026

We are in need of guitar technicians! We are building a team of the best technicians in the area, and produce work that stands far above anything else offered in the area. Pay is commensurate with experience and will scale with performance.

Experience is not required and we will train. However, you must have at least fair exposure to the guitar/bass market and must be able to play at at least an intermediate level.

What we require:

- High attention to detail and general sense of care.

- High mechanical aptitude. We regularly handle five-figure instruments; there is no room for clumsiness.

- Strong sense of organization. Must be able to maintain your bench and contribute to keeping the shop clean and organized.

- Strong understanding of the instrument. Must be able to translate customer complaints into isolated mechanical/electrical problems.

- Procedural, consistent and reliable. Everything is recorded here.

- Intermediate level of guitar playing minimum. You need to have been playing for a while to understand the sensitivity and nuances when dealing with professional musicians.

What we would like:

- Formal luthiery training is a plus and will be weighted.

- Experience with finish repairs and process

- Engineering experience is a large plus and will help you understand the workflow.

- General familiarity with the guitar/bass industry, history and influential figures.

- Familiar with the current industry trends.

- Familiar with vintage gear.

The schedule can be somewhat flexible, but the shop operates on a retail schedule, meaning, afternoons and evenings.

Please attach your resume and references.

If you have some experience, we require a portfolio of your work.

We are looking for a good, long-term fit. The business is growing and you can certainly grow with it!
