Position Summary
The GA Pre-K Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for 4-year-olds enrolled in Georgia’s Lottery-Funded Pre-K program. This role supports the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of children while ensuring compliance with Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and Bright from the Start requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons aligned with Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS).
- Support small group, large group, and individualized instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Create a positive and nurturing classroom environment that encourages exploration, independence, and respect.
- Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being at all times, indoors and outdoors.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and developmental documentation as required.
- Assist with classroom set-up, organization, and maintaining a print-rich and process-art-based environment.
- Communicate professionally with families, colleagues, and management.
- Ensure compliance with all DECAL regulations, health and safety standards, and Chroma Early Learning Academy policies.
- Participate in professional development and required training sessions.
- Support management and staff as needed, including flexibility to assist in other roles.
Qualifications
Assistant Teachers must meet DECAL Lottery-Funded Pre-K requirements by holding one of the following:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR
- Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) or Technical College Diploma (TCD) in Early Childhood Education or related field; OR
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field; OR
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; OR
- Paraprofessional Certificate or valid Georgia teaching certificate.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Successful completion of state and federal background checks.
- Completion of DECAL orientation training and ongoing annual professional development.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and actively engage with children in indoor and outdoor settings.
